Yes! You already talked about Christmas songs in July… I wrote my first one this year with a friend of mine, and just put it up on Disco yesterday. Probably too late for anything to happen this year – but next! And I’m planning to do some Christmas song covers too. Thanks Chris!

  2. Derek Cohen says:

Hi Chris. We had a christmas song played on a soap opera a couple times 4 years ago. Unfortunately they had no music budget so there was no licensing fee. There were royalties, but meager.

    • Chris SD says:

Yes, soap operas are at the bottom for TV budgets so I am not surprised. The idea is to get into higher tier shows, movies, and ads which is what I do at Sync Songwriter.

  3. Jim Hewitt says:

I wrote and released a country western sounding original Christmas song called Tumbleweed Christmas Tree. I have submitted it to several briefs but have never received any feedback. Do you think that songs that are not traditional Christmas themed are overlooked by the music supervisors? This one was very special to me as it was suggested by my wife whose childhood was graced by unconventional trees, made out of non-tree items. I.e. does it have to be more mainstream to be successful?

    • Chris SD says:

No! It does not have to be mainstream. They are looking for familiar with a twist and most importantly, authentic music. Stick to your guns, now you just need to connect with the right people in TV & film. If you need help with that, just let me know.

    Here’s mine if you want a listen,Chris?

    • Chris SD says:

I unfortunately can’t listen to all the music that gets sent my way. Just reach out if you want help getting your songs to the right people though.

  5. Alex Kydd says:

    Hi Chris,
Great advice! Nothing like the Christmas season immersion to inspire some authentic holiday songs.
I get new ideas every year.
It’s also encouraging to know that supervisors respond to unique songs that come from the heart.
    Cheers,
    Alex

  6. 303GREG says:

Can’t find any link to submit my Xmas song. This is my first xmas of considering a submission.
    Thank you.

    • Chris SD says:

I am not an agent, Greg, and don’t accept outside songs. I connect the songwriters I work with directly with music supervisors in TV & film. Just reach out if you would like some help doing that.

  7. catharine beck says:

Liked your article on Christmas songs. Youโ€™re right they have to be from the heart. I recently got one of my Christmas songs picked up by Hallmark. Itโ€™s called โ€œWhere Are You Christmasโ€ by Catharine Beck. You have to spell Catharine with 2Aโ€™s or you wonโ€™t find it. This one came from a true story of me at the grocery store meeting the guy with a bell. Please check it out. Thanks

    • Chris SD says:

I would love to, but I am so busy helping our members get consistent placements in TV & film. That is a great start, Catherine!

  8. Patricia Panzarino says:

This is great Chris! When I try to write for sync, I come up empty. When I get inspired and write from my heart, it just pours out of me. Thank you for your wisdom and advice!

  9. Rod says:

I’ve written a few christmas songs in past two years. 1 a kinda neosoul vibe, two others country-ish. It was great fun. Thanks for the video, maybe I’ll write some more. Submitting to a music super in July may be my next goal.

    • Chris SD says:

Thanks, Zave, I’m not an agent and can’t listen to all the music that gets sent to me. If you want to connect with the right people in TV & film, let me know.

  10. Cheryl J Campagne says:

Dear Chris, I have recorded a Winter song titled Purple Mittens that did come close to a Hallmark movie! I have 7 new Christmas originals ready to record for 2026! I look forward to sharing these in the near future! Thank you for all you do! Sincerely, Cheryl Jeanette

  11. Ethan johnson says:

Hi Chris. Thanks for the heads up.
My song: “God In The Highest ” is a well Produced Christmas Song. I believe it would be great this Christmas. My first ever Christmas Coral ๐ŸŽ„.

  12. Jerry Brugoto says:

I have two Christmas songs on this site: jerrybrugotomusic.com

    • Chris SD says:

Thanks, but I unfortunately can’t listen to all the music that gets sent to me. If you want help connecting with the right people in TV & film yourself, just let me know.

  13. Adryan Russ says:

Thanks for the great advice, Chris. I have a song I co-wrote called “Christmas Time for Two” that we’ve been interested in getting out in the world! Are there some shows you think might still be open this late in the year?

    • Chris SD says:

My music supervisor friends are always on the hunt for Christmas music right up to the big day. The trick is connecting with them which is difficult to do without a path to do that. If you need help with that, just let me know.

  14. Rhonda says:

Thank you for the terrific advice and energy you put into every video you do for us Chris. Sundown is recording a Christmas song for me right now called ‘Christmas Crush’. The story behind the song was inspired by a distant memory of mine from my high school days in England combined with my imagination…. One memory I had was a year we had a school dance with a mistletoe theme ….the most popular boys in school (4 or 5 of them if I recall rightly) stood near the school stage and any girls who wanted to could line up for a kiss. I had a crush on one boy throughout high school and he was one of those boys but I was far, far too chicken to get in that line up…still that crush lasted even without that kiss, lol, and now 45 years later, back in my home province of Alberta CA, the memory remains, though a little blurry but still makes me laugh about how ludicrous that process really was, and in hindsight, I think “what was I thinking’ haha. I am really looking forward to getting my track back soon (harmonies are being done now) and hopefully get some great opportunities for it. ๐Ÿ™‚
Merry Christmas to you and yours Chris and thanks for all you do!

  15. Chris Dunnett says:

    Hey Chris,
Yes, I did have a Christmas song placed a few years ago on The Young and Restless. I since have the rights back if you know of anyone looking ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Chris SD says:

I’m not an agent, but connect indie songwriters like yourself directly to music supervisors. Just write in if you want to know how to do that.

  16. Andy Hoyle says:

    Hey Chris,
    Thanks for your suggestions!
I’ve just put out a Christmas song called “Ho-Ho-Ho” which has been playlisted on few radio stations…here is the YouTube video link to check it out… https://youtu.be/fOLZWR9ChNg

Please let me know if you have any suggestions about where this song could best be placed for sync…
    Thank you!

    • Chris SD says:

I unfortunately can’t listen to all the music that gets sent to me, Andy. If you want to connect directly with music supervisors for TV & film, your next best step is to attend the Sync Songwriter Music Supervisor Panel. It is online and doesn’t cost anything. Keep your eye on your inbox for details.

  17. Tobe Hubbard says:

We truly enjoy the Christmas Season. I have written many Christmas songs and it seems like when I have been working on. a couple more seem to follow… lol! I have been tuning into SYNC WRITER for a while. And it seems like you all are genuine. Other SYNC .com’s are as well just sayin’… I am retired now and of course budget seems to at the helm with everything. So still trying to work that out…nevertheless… that to say… thanks for the reminders of the season. Time to let Christmas wash over us and we will see what can happen. Thanks your the tiem and the consistent vids…

    • Chris SD says:

Thank you Tobe. I really appreciate your trust and kind words. Keep writing, and yes, this is the perfect time for a Christmas song.

  18. Geertjan says:

Hi Chris, Thanks for your inspirational video! I wrote a great authentic Christmas song last year. it’s called May very heart heal this Christmas time. A contemplative, peaceful, folky Christmas song, tah almost feels like a prayer. It’s in the sync songwriter library. Just thought I’d mention that, in case you’re involved in the search for songs for these shows! All the best, and have a great holiday season, Geertjan Aleven

  19. Nicolai says:

Great idea, i always meant to do that – i could propose the same song(s) for singing in our gospel choir, as well. double use, nice. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks as always for your impulses. Have a great holiday time.

  22. David Holloway says:

    Hi Chris!
Very encouraging holiday message. I just had an American Idol singer from Season 4 record my song โ€œOne Christmas Wish.โ€ My big dream is to get 3 incredible songs to Hallmark but it seems almost impossible to get them to listen even though I just played the real life featured extra part of a jazz trumpeter in this huge (700 extras) movie. My songs seem to fit incredibly well. Is there a prayer.. anything I can do? One Hallmark connected sync agent in Hollywood told me it would be months to listen and โ€œvetโ€ me and my one-stop, one-owner music. I am desperate to get through to them. There are no briefs yet, but I have heard the โ€œtempโ€ tracks and my songs are much much better. Pleaseโ€ฆ help!

    • Chris SD says:

Yes, there are millions of songwriters who want to get through to the people who place music in TV & film. It is next to impossible unless you have a path. This is exactly what I do.
