This Will Get Song Placements in TV & Film in 2026

December 14, 2025

There is one technique I use right around this time every year that has helped me build Sync Songwriter into what it has become. If you want to get your music into TV & film in 2026, you should try it too. It’s simple, almost obvious, but incredibly powerful.

How can a writer differentiate between legitimate placement groups and those simply looking to make money off of the nonpublished or beginners?

    • Chris SD says:

That’s a tough one, Mel. It’s hard to tell unless you know their true track record. All I know is what I do and we have been getting incredible results for indie songwriters for almost 10 years now.

  2. Steve Fulton says:

    Hi Chris! Happy Holidays!
You continue to inspire me to keep going forward and I love the community of people involved in Sync Club. I haven’t had any syncs yet but still feel encouraged that I will at some point. I have had other successes with my music outside of Sync Club but I still see Sync Club as the most unique approach to getting your music to a Supervisor. I have realized that I may need to push a little harder than I have so that is my goal for 2026! Woohoo!
Thank you so much for everything!
    All the best,
    Steve Fulton

    Chris,
A timely prompt as i was just reviewing what worked and what needs to be changed or standardized. I think I’m 85% there. I hear encouraging things and I know the music supervisors are listening, “this could work in a bar scene”, “beautiful song”, etc etc. Having been in sales for a long time this isn’t the same as “we want to buy this”. Its polite, encouraging “no”. We need to focus on quality and only bring the best songs that we know are the right ones. How do we do this based on what I see/hear?

Start recording bed tracks in Studio again, at least the bed tracks. Historically, these were better songs and we need to have the right drummer for what we are doing. Or have the current drummer more available and engaged in person along with eh bass player. We need to get the right drum mics and replaced the heads. I have a plan to update my disco offering by a couple of songs to all the music supervisors and expand the ones i have reached out to so that there are more people aware. I think I need to start working with a producer and I need to find one that we can work with and align with. We need to find a way to externally master the songs and we need to potentially start mixing the songs externally as well. Composition has been an issue and I need more education around structure and how to arrive at where I want to be with a repetitive process/method. I’m in a course now for writing and I need to spend the time to get this done. This should help me more aware of how to set up the songs but also to bring the core hooks as a repetitive time in the songs. Of course the money needs to be available for all of this a and need to review my cash plan and expectations as to when revenues swill start. finally our little group needs to be more in alignment on getting the actual work done, their commitments/schedule and the project management aspects of what we are doing. I need to have more external feedback on what needs to be improved in the songs as well.
Thanks and all the best for the holiday season.

    • Chris SD says:

It sounds like you have really thought this through, Ross. It sounds like the beginnings of a great roadmap for 2026!

  4. JoAnn Rankin says:

I have been trying to figure this out for 5 years, Chris. I guess it would be awesome to find a mentor who could help me (1) decide which music to produce out of the many many songs I write and (2) look at my history and offer pointers on how to improve the music choices I make and the approach to supervisors. I must be doing something wrong, but even with real friendships that have developed with several supervisors (for which I thank you) and their encouragement, I am at my wits end. Thank you for the past 5 years – it has been an overall positive learning experience.

  5. David Holloway says:

    Thank you again, Chris!
Inspiring! My goal & dream is to get my songs into that Hallmark Kentucky Derby Movie. Is there a prayer to do so if I am signed
    exclusive to TuneCore Admin Publishing?
    David

    • Chris SD says:

Just have a look at the terms in their contract, David. I am not familiar with them, but I expect it won’t be a problem.

  7. Robert Bismuth says:

Great video – thanks Chris, and I can see you are already on the way to having a great holiday season!

Where I want to be? Well, I’ve been asking that question for as long as I have known how to ask a question … The answer is always a touch illusive …

Within the sync world, I am about where I expected to be. I came into the first year of Sync Club in 2024 as an instrumental composer but had already worked out being able to write “songs” was going to be important so I enrolled at Berklee to figure out how to do that in my “copious spare time”. A year later I am still at Berklee but have completed many courses in lyric writing and writing music for vocals. The result has been 30+ songs completed – written, performed, produced, mastered and, in many cases, pitched.

But this is a long game, so I have focused on building relationships with music supervisors and keep them up to date with fresh material. The response has been good and, since I use Disco, I can track download activity as a confirmation of interest.

So, good positive year with more to come!

Good to see all the positive progress by other Sync Club members – definitely encouraging – and the excellent press coverage you are getting for Sync Club. Thank again – to you and all the team there who make it all happen for us!

  8. Daniel Cartier says:

My goal at the beginning of 2023 was simple: to start making music professionally again.

2023 and 2024 became about rebuilding my studio and re-establishing the habit of recording every day. I couldn’t put expectations on it — I needed to make music purely for music’s sake for a while. During that time, I joined a few programs (Modern Musician and some music placement services) that were informative, but didn’t offer any one-on-one access to music supervisors.

By early 2025, I felt ready to get more serious about building real relationships with supervisors, which is when I discovered Synch Songwriter. By far, it’s been the most hands-on experience I’ve had. While I don’t have any placements yet (at least none that I know of), I do know that many of my songs have been downloaded multiple times, and the one-on-one meetings with supervisors have been invaluable. The Synch Songwriter staff has also been incredible — pitching our music behind the scenes, offering thoughtful feedback, and genuinely advocating for the artists.

My goal for 2026 is pretty simple: keep recording, keep refining my music database, and keep reaching out to supervisors with songs that might genuinely serve their projects. I may never land a placement — or maybe I will. The results aren’t up to me. But showing up consistently, doing the work, and approaching it all with a good attitude can only increase the odds.

    • Chris SD says:

That is exactly the right attitude, Daniel. Know that you are in a rarefied group at Sync Songwriter compared to the millions of other indie songwriters out there trying to break through the noise.

  9. Darrell Heath says:

First of all have a very*** Merry Christmas and a HAPPY NEW YEAR*** The problem I have is not knowing who is the real deal and who is not so I just do not do it .
    Thank You
    Darrell Heath

    • Chris SD says:

It’s really easy to tell, Darrell. Just make relationships with music supervisors. They are not middlemen and are the ones who place music in TV & film.

  10. Ebenezer Scrooge says:

I review every year and have been for the last 40. Even so, music has stalled and nothing has really progressed in the last 10 years. That’s OK, music is being taken over by machines anyway. Lol

    • Chris SD says:

Scrooge indeed! 🙂 Sorry to hear you are discouraged. Music has supposedly been being taken over by machines since the 1980s. Still waiting.

  11. Ethan Johnson says:

Am heading back in the studio again. Trying to record a song for my first Sync. Looking for a January 2026 released

  12. Phil Kennelty says:

I want to thank you for all that I learned in the Sync Song class. While I did not secure any synchronization offers, the lessons about establishing contacts has helped me in other aspects of my songwriting and other music ventures. And learning about and using “Disco” as a means of sharing my music has helped me in distributing my music to radio stations, promoters, venues, etc.

In addition to completing my second album, this past fall, I have reached out and connected with radio DJ’s, promoters and venue managers regarding airplay and performance opportunities. My recordings are now on compilations being distributed to hundreds of radio stations and I was asked to contribute to a tribute recording, including, among others, Jimmy Webb, Freedy Johnson and Willie Nile.

I’ve accomplished alot in 2025 and have the beginnings of a game plan for 2026. I hope to be able to participate in the Sync Song community again next year and to achieve even more success stories.

  13. Gary Schisnewski says:

Hi Chris, i know I have gained momentum or traction, I also know my music is sync licensing gold, even AI tells me that. I need your help to put it to the right people, none of these jokers trying to make money of me. I know once the right person hears me, im in….how can you help me with that? I will definitely give you a cut…..lmk bussy….thanks

  14. Scott Burrows says:

You are a nice guy, Chris. Thanks for this lovely message and constructive guidance. I will take your tip and inventory my year. This program has give me new visions and ambitions for placing my music and for exploring new possibilities. It’s also given me validation for music I created long ago. Plus I get to be part of the club in its best year ever! Thank you for changing my life!
    Merry Christmas
    Scott Burrows

  15. Irene Miller Fyler says:

This time last year, I think I was already signing up for Sync Songwriter. This course was invaluable to me, not only for all I learned and the music supervisors I met, but for learning DISCO.ac which was very important. Also for all the friends I made in that community (many of whom I’ve kept in touch with). Although I’ve not had anything placed, I am still sending music out to various music supes and have recently returned from recording new music which should be ready in early 2026. I am hopeful and uplifted and ready for the New Year and what it may bring. I don’t let myself get discouraged (OK..when I do, I try to quickly turn it around) and I’m happy to have learned everything I did. Your staff was and is amazing and so very helpful. So, have a great New Year and I am happy you keep in touch with those that could not go on to Sync Club. All the best.

  16. Ernie Rowell says:

    Chris:

What I’ve learned in 2025 is that patience is a key. If you truly believe in songs you’ve either written or are repping, it takes time to have them filter through the system. I believe this next year will be my best, with a couple already on the way, fingers crossed, and more to come!

    Merry Christmas to all!

  17. Amber Snider says:

My 2025 was about recording and sending new music to sups, I plan to release the new album in 2026. I can become better at keeping in touch with sups so I don’t fall off their radar. Happy Holidays everyone.

    Chris,
Thanks for the GREAT recording we got from Sundown Studios. Thanks for the direct connections with 29 supervisors & counting. Thanks for the “hold” I have on one of my songs for possible inclusion in a show early next year. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Thanks for the incredible team you have put together to support us. I’m hoping to put all of the information, knowledge and opportunities you have provided into expanding my music career. Merry Christmas! Look me up if you ever drive into Nashville. I’ll buy the meal. – Kent Maxson

  19. Merilyn Steele says:

    Thanks again Chris!
It’s always good to take stock and reflect at end of year. I will be making some changes for 2026, less time on things that are holding me back or not so fruitful and joining your team to pitch my songs and hopefully land some great sync deals for the new year!

  20. Pam Messer says:

    Hi Chris

2025 has been a consolidating year. Continuing with new writes I have also realised the potential to enhance those I already have. Hoping for a breakthrough track in 2026 be fabulous if it came from a sync connection – never say never. Feeling positive – beginners mind everytime
